Gauge NYC

Gauge nyc located in Brooklyn, NY has been handcrafting unique objects in metal for many years.  Founded by Paul Smotrys, a self-taught artist, he started showing his metal sculptures in Philadelphia in his early twenties.

They were primarily galleries that exhibited fine art, but Paul never thought of himself as just a fine artist. He believed that when something is made beautifully and with heart, there really is no distinction between high art sculpture or a home accessories. He says, “I’ve always been fascinated by the opposing properties of metal. For example, hard/soft, sharp/smooth, immediate/laborious.”

His inspiration is that place in between art and industry. The beauty and integrity of metal is the underlying bond within the collection. The results are designs that are straight forward, clean and visually compelling.
